Tips on How to Reduce and Re-Use
December 10, 2019
We’ve all heard the slogan – Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle, right?
But do we really understand what each of these words mean and how we can follow them to minimise our impact on the environment?
What do we need to reduce? What items can we reuse? Below we’ll run through some specific examples and tips to help you.
How To Reduce Waste
Reduce the use of plastic. This means stay away from the plastic bags when grocery shopping and opt for a reusable one. Instead of bringing home plastic knives and forks, use your metal ones at home. Thinking about bringing your own lunch to work? Use a reusable box instead of a one-off takeaway container.
Want to know one easy tip that’ll help most people save on plastic waste?
Stop buying water bottles. In many homes, you’ll see people hoarding plastic water bottles in their room. Feeling thirsty? Open up a new bottle!
But this leads to so much unnecessary plastic waste. Instead, purchase a reusable drinking bottle. Perhaps an insulated bottle to keep your water cool or a fruit infuser water bottle for added flavour.
Tips To Re-using Goods
Reuse plastic water bottles and containers. One crafty idea is to use old bottles and containers as coin banks for your kids. Simply cut out a small area that would serve as the coin slot and – voila! – instant coin bank!
Or you can make another storage device, like a pencil case. Cutt off the top of the containers, tape the sides so they’re not sharp and store your children’s crayons, pencils, toys, or anything else they normally have lying down.
Reuse old clothing, towels, and blankets. As long as they’re still decent and usable, you can bring them to any charitable institution so that they can be used by those that need them the most.
You can also cut these old towels and blankets into smaller sizes to be used as rags for cleaning various stuff around the house.
There are still so many things that you could reduce and reuse. If you’re truly concerned about the environment and sincerely want to contribute, make the effort to learn more and start doing them.
