Glass Recycling: Things You Can Do (Tips and Crafts)
August 30, 2019
Want to minimise waste?
By recycling your glass, companies can turn melt old glass and turn it into new glass jars, containers, and other objects. This is the same for any other reusable materials.
But if you want to take things into your own hands, there are things you can do with glass that don’t require you to hand them over to recycling companies. If you want to be creative and have something fun to do, here are some great glass recycling ideas and crafts.
#1. Recycle glass bottles as light fixtures and lanterns for a rustic look
Instead of throwing away used glass bottles, you can use them as decorative accessories for table lamps, lanterns, and even chandeliers.
This is suitable for both indoors and outdoors (the glass is sturdy).
The light that radiates from the bottle when light is shone through will change in colour and shape, depending on the bottle used. Try out different coloured bottles to get your desired ambiance.
#2. Use wine bottles as bird feeders
Wine bottles make for great bird feeders. You can use it to provide water for thirsty birds or provide seeds for the hungry. By doing this, you not only help the environment by minimising waste, but you also make your garden look amazing for your visitors — both humans and birds alike!
#3. Use glass bottles as table-top decorative accents for your living room
Glass bottles can be painted over with different colours and styles, matched with various trinkets, novelty items, ornaments, and even jewellery to turn it into a stunning decorative piece for your tabletop.
You can do this with any glass bottle you have lying around your home. Just make sure it reflects the mood that you want to project in your room.
#4. Use them as decorative vases
Give those old glass bottles a renewed purpose by converting them into stylish vases for your indoor flowers and plants. Aside from using different coloured paint, you can also reuse wrapping paper to give those glass bottles different patterns your visitors will love.
Depending on the container you have, you can fit different flowers or objects inside.
You could even use smaller bottles as the container for a reed diffuser.
#5. Make stylish glass terrariums
Recycling old bottles into terrariums can be a fun and rewarding activity for you and your kids.
Terrariums add a splash of nature to your room and improves the aesthetic. Instead of just having a normal plant in a pot, place the plant within a glass container, and display it among your other glass crafts.
You can start with just one plant or two for simplicity. Add small fun items inside to create that magical look.
Have too much glass and other things you can’t reuse?
